The Bija Youth Development Institute aims to equip leaders and changemakers to strengthen the youth development ecosystem. Bija is a Sanskrit term that literally translates to “seed” and the Bija Youth Development Institute aims to harness the energies and creativity of the youth today.
Youth sector leaders need skills and knowledge to effectively deploy themselves in complex problem spaces and help the youth sector adapt. This course will focus on developing adaptive leadership capabilities specifically tailored to address the ten adaptive challenges facing the youth sector in Asian countries. Through experiential learning, case studies, and interactive discussions, participants will gain the tools and strategies needed to navigate these challenges and drive positive change.
Adaptive challenges are complex and require innovative and adaptive approaches to find solutions. Here are ten adaptive challenges facing the youth sector in many countries.
Youth Unemployment: Addressing the high rates of unemployment among young people and creating opportunities for meaningful and sustainable employment.
Education Disparities: Tackling educational inequalities, including limited access to quality education, inadequate resources, and disparities in educational outcomes among different regions and socioeconomic groups.
Digital Divide: Bridging the digital divide to ensure equitable access to technology and digital literacy skills among youth, especially in rural and marginalized communities.
Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability: Empowering young people to address the impacts of climate change, promote sustainable practices, and advocate for environmental conservation.
Mental Health and Well-being: Addressing the rising mental health issues among youth, including anxiety, depression, and stress, and promoting mental well-being through accessible support services and awareness campaigns.
Civic Engagement and Participation: Encouraging youth to actively participate in democratic processes, engage in community development, and have a voice in decision-making at local, national, and international levels.
Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment: Promoting gender equality and empowering young women to overcome barriers and discrimination, and ensuring equal opportunities for their participation and leadership in all sectors.
Substance Abuse and Addiction: Addressing the growing problem of substance abuse and addiction among youth, including developing prevention programs, providing treatment and support services, and raising awareness.
Youth Empowerment and Leadership Development: Building the capacity of young people to become effective leaders, change agents, and advocates for their communities, providing them with the necessary skills, mentorship, and platforms to create positive change.
Social Injustice and Inequality: Challenging social injustices and inequalities, including poverty, discrimination, and marginalization, and promoting social inclusion and equity for all young people.
